Medical Eye Exams

Medical Eye Exams

At Veld Vision Center, our doctor and our staff members are committed to providing you with the eye care services that you are looking for – we know how important vision is. That’s why we not only provide routine vision screenings to determine whether or not you need glasses or contacts, but we also provide a variety of medical eye exam services, too. These eye exams services help us to detect any eye complications or diseases that a patient may have, and start the treatment process immediately.

Diabetic Eye Exams

It is important that those patients who suffer from diabetes undergo regular eye exams, as diabetes puts patients at risk of eye complications. Two conditions that patients with diabetes are most at risk of developing are:

In addition to getting regular care from the doctor who treats your diabetes, you also need to have your eyes checked by a professional at at least once a year, and perhaps more frequently if you do have an eye condition.

Glaucoma is a very serious condition that, as stated above, refers to a group of eye diseases that can cause damage to the optic nerve. When this happens, the sending of visual information to your brain is impaired. In order to check for glaucoma, our eye doctors check any increases in eye pressure, which is one of the most obvious and telling symptoms of glaucoma.

Glaucoma testing is done via the “puff test.” During this test, a puff of air is blown into the eye, and how the eye reacts to the puff is measured. Another test, which is designed to test the pressure, is to numb the eye and then touch its surface. Because the eye is numbed with drops beforehand, this does not hurt at all.

The disease that is classified by the clouding of the lens and blurred vision is called cataracts. Cataracts disease typically affects older persons, but it could occur earlier, and is more common in those who smoke or have diabetes. A cataract, or the clump of protein that causes the blurred vision, may need to be removed when it is severe. However, there are also a number of other treatment options available that our doctors can explain to you.

Red Eye

Do you suffer from eyes that are constantly red? If so, you may be suffering from a condition known as red eye, which happens when the blood vessels on the surface of your eye are dilated. This could happen as a result of inflammation (i.e. eye irritation from contacts or another source) or infection, although it could also be the sign of another health condition, like glaucoma or pink eye. If you have red eyes, it is essential that you seek a medical eye exam from Veld Vision Center to diagnose the cause and begin treatment immediately.

Dry Eye

We also provide medical eye exam services for dry eye, a condition that can be very uncomfortable to live with. Dry eye syndrome is one of the most common eye complications, and can be caused as a result of certain medications, a decline in tear production caused by age, certain autoimmune disorders, thyroid disorders, environmental factors, prolonged periods of screen time, allergies, and more. We can diagnose your dry eye, help you to understand the potential causes, and explore treatment options that provide you with the relief you’re looking for.

High Risk Medications

Medications such as Plaquenil require frequent monitoring and testing to ensure the medication is not causing any harm to the eye.
